The center also served as one of the venues for the 2022 Men’s Handball European Championship.
The project was carried out by West Hungária Bau Ltd. (WHB), while the construction planning tasks in the Design & Build process were handled by BMSK., which has since ceased to exist and transferred its responsibilities to the Ministry of Construction and Transport.
Here are a few facts to illustrate the enormous scale of the building: The investment was made out of 27.4 billion forints by the Investment Agency (BMSK Zrt.). The hall is about 29 meters high, for which 77-tonne main supports were raised.
The extremely large and heavy main supports were lifted one by one with the help of a special crane in 1 hour, with very serious and coordinated teamwork. 60 trucks transported the material to Szeged to assemble the 600-ton crane with a boom length of 102 meters.
The adequate energy level of the building is ensured by the RAVATHERM XPS 300 SL extruded polystyrene foam installed in the amount of hundreds of cubic meters, with a thickness of 22 cm.
The hall also hosts cultural events. The fully barrier-free multifunctional sports hall fully complies with the requirements of the European Handball Federation (EHF), and is also suitable for organizing cultural events and conferences.
As part of the project, a conference hall for 80 people, four gyms and two warm-up rooms were also built. In addition to the two-court training hall built next to the project, an academic, dormitory section was also created, thinking about handball replacements, which enables the accommodation of more than 30 children in boarding form.
