The most significant investment of the past decades at Hungexpo has been completed. As a result, the covered area of more than 70,000 square meters and the open area of 36 hectares were completely renewed. The country’s most modern congress center was built, thus Hungexpo took a big step forward in the list of Europe’s top event venues.
The project, completed in 2021 and costing 55 billion Forints, was designed by Finta Studio and executed by KÉSZ Zrt. The completed investments and developments are still operated by Hungexpo Zrt., which organizes and organizes exhibitions and conferences and operates the infrastructure.
In the course of several years of planning and almost two years of construction, two new pavilions, one with a floor area of 7,250 and one with a floor area of 5,700 m2, as well as an iconic new reception hall were built, and three more pavilions with a total floor area of more than 32,000 m2 were renovated. In parallel, two pavilions underwent minor renovations. The entire public utility infrastructure of the area was renewed, the investment also involved high-quality landscaping and an increase in green space.
The key element of the development is the creation of a congress center equipped with modern audio-visual technology, with 26 session rooms and suitable for plenary sessions of 2,000 people.
The proper energetic design of the modern building was essential, so 22 cm thick RAVATHERM XPS 300 SL extruded polystyrene foam thermal insulation was installed in the building. RAVATHERM XPS 700 SL thermal insulation with exceptionally high compressive strength was used for the building parts with special demands.
The realized investment makes up for decades of deficit. Budapest has already been a prime destination for conference tourism, but due to the lack of a suitable location, it has only been able to benefit to a limited extent from one of the most important and not least the most profitable branches of quality tourism, business tourism. With the modern congress center and the necessary revitalization of the entire area, the capital will have the opportunity to host international congresses and conferences of practically any size, thus taking its long-deserved place on the international stage.
