After many years, Füred Hotel, one of the largest and oldest hotels in Balatonfüred, is being reborn. The four-star hotel based on domestic tourism, which will also function as a spa hotel, will be completed this year.
The legendary hotel once operated as a union resort, and although it survived the regime change thanks to its popularity and excellent positioning, it was closed during the 2008 world crisis – this very year. In recent decades, Balatonfüred has started to develop enormously, especially the lakeside, where thousands of tourists visit every year. The building, which has been empty and unused for years, did not meet the development trend of recent years, either in its economic or aesthetic quality.
The renovation of Füred Hotel had already been planned, but the support received at the time within the framework of the Széchenyi plan was lost due to the lack of commencement of the works.
As a result of the recent change of ownership, the actual renovation began in 2014, with the cooperation of Bord Építész Studio. In an interview with the portal balatonfured.hu, architect Péter Bordás says: “We are thinking about a unified, clean appearance, the tower character of the current building will be preserved, as it is a symbol, it has an imposing appearance when viewed from the water. There is no problem with the character of the building, the tower-like buildings that provide such a reference look good on the banks of larger bodies of water. However, the proportions must definitely be changed, we will make the building more harmonious, lighter and friendlier. The frame structure of the current hostel will therefore be preserved, however, the reinforced concrete elements will be demolished at the entrance, and a new part of the building will be added to the Balaton side.
As part of the reconstruction, the building foundation received RAVATHERM XPS 300 WB, and the parking roof RAVATHERM XPS 300 SL closed-cell thermal insulation, the purpose of which is not only to modernize the energy of the building, but also to ensure that the thermal insulation can withstand the constant, heavy load. The building’s heat supply will be partially provided by solar panels, while the energy and heat generated will be partially retained by the RAVATHERM XPS thermal insulation.
The Füred Hotel is protected by insulation with a heat conduction resistance of R = 2.85 m2KW thanks to the 10-10 cm thick RAVATHERM XPS 300 WB and 300 SL thermal insulation installed in the plinth and the parking roof.
Thanks to its high compressive strength, RAVATHERM XPS is suitable for bearing the stresses of both the parking roof and the plinth. Due to its closed-cell material structure, it is also resistant to various types of moisture, retaining its excellent thermal insulation properties.
