General information
Traditionally, underground pipelines sensitive to frost have been laid in a depth below the frost-line. Since the use of the traditional methods has become quite complicated owing to various reasons (e.g. excessive proportion of built-up areas, dense underground public utility networks), laying pipes in small depths combined with thermal insulation plates fixed above the pipes has become an extensively accepted method.
Other information
As to ensure unencumbered operation of the pipelines, RAVATHERM™ XPS thermal insulation can be used for providing protection from frost. The water flowing in the pipes must not freeze and the pipes must be protected from breakage or damage owing to frost.
Technical
In case of every structure, building or facility built upon soil, completion of earth-works and construction of the substructure of proper quality is an indispensable task.
Heavy demands are placed on the quality of insulation materials used for water supply and sewage installations: it must maintain its insulating capability for the service life of the pipe – between 50 and 100 years – and must withstand loads from works traffic.
The use of RAVATHERM™ XPS tables for insulating the water supply and sewage disposal pipe systems can result in substantial cost savings.
