THE CHALLENGE
With over 60 years of heritage to draw on, Ravago Building Solutions UK is no stranger to supplying world-class solutions to world-class projects. Amongst the most recent of these is 177 Bothwell Street, Glasgow: an ambitious commercial office development whose pioneering green credentials are more than fitting for Scotland’s “Dear Green Place”.
177 Bothwell Street is impressive in every sense of the word: spanning 29,000 m2 and 13 storeys, the Grade A development is Glasgow’s largest single office building; could contribute £2.8 billion to the Scottish economy over 25 years; and will meet the highest international standards of sustainability. With exceptional thermal comfort and performance critical to achieving the targeted BREEAM Excellent rating, an equally impressive insulation solution was essential.
THE SOLUTION
For the main roof areas, King’s Lynn-based XPS insulation manufacturer Ravago was able to offer a purpose-designed solution combining ultimate design flexibility and performance with the industry-coveted assurance of British Board of Agrément (BBA) certification.
Partnering with Alumasc Roofing, Ravago deployed its innovative Ravatherm XPS X ULTRA 300 SL insulation boards to deliver the building’s aspirational energy efficiency requirements.
“177 Bothwell Street represents the future of office space, and that legacy is reliant on the fabric’s longevity and performance. On that basis, we recommended our ultra-thin Ravatherm XPS X ULTRA 300 SL boards for the main roof, which offer an exceptional design lambda of 0.028 W/mK, and a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than one”, says Richard Powell, Roofing Sales Manager at Ravago Building Solutions UK.
THE RESULTS
Designed by pioneers in sustainable architecture, Sheppard Robson, the steel-framed commercial development reflects people- and planet-focused principles from its core outwards: from Ravago’s high-performance inverted flat roof XPS insulation to an 8,000 sq. ft roof terrace, 150-metre running track and panoramic views over Glasgow. All of this, of course, powered by 100% renewable energy.
177 Bothwell Street has achieved an EPC rating of ‘A’, and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, while catering to an occupancy of over 3,500, and was named commercial development of the year at the Scottish Property Awards 2022.
