Roofs, can be used to provide planted spaces or architectural gardens that offer a valuable comfort within the built environment. These green roofs enhance the appearance of the building and provide additional outdoor space to the building users.
Planting on the green roof can be:
• Extensive: using a thin soil layer for planting and plants with low vegetation. Extensive green roofs are usually not intended for accessibility. Once the plant germinates – which can only take a few months – it needs very limited maintenance.
• Intensive: using thick soil planting and traditional garden plants, such as lawn, shrubs and even small trees. Intensive green roofs need full accessibility for maintenance, are suitable for roof gardens and are usually combined with sidewalks and terraces that provide spaces of comfort.
Ravatherm XPS X 300 SL and Ravatherm XPS 300 SL extruded polystyrene boards are the ideal materials for green roofs since:
• They are invulnerable to decay and moisture. Their properties are not affected by the conditions under the soil layer.
• Available in a variety of thicknesses from 30 to 120 mm, which allows the combination of thermal efficiency with the requirements of the project.
• They are made shiplap configuration that ensure a good fit between the boards, so as not to create thermal bridges.
