A basic condition for achieving thermal comfort and energy saving in a building, is to insulate the outer surface, without interruption and with equivalent thermal insulation performance of all its individual elements. In practice, this is best achieved with external thermal insulation (ETICS).
Construction or other reasons often lead to the choice of conventional methods of thermal insulation (eg. cavity wall thermal insulation).
In this case, thermal insulation of all concrete elements (columns, beams, etc.) is required.
Given that, the thermal losses of concrete elements are about four times those of elements of equal thickness of perforated bricks, the importance that must be given to limiting heat escape from reinforced elements is emphasized.
The thermal insulation of concrete elements is a complete protection of the frame of the construction, contributing to the thermal comfort of the people who
live and work in it.
Ravatherm XPS X Shape BL and Ravatherm XPS Shape BL extruded polystyrene boards, intended for the thermal insulation of concrete elements, have suitable properties for the specific application, such as:
• Low coefficient of thermal conductivity λ
• Adhesion to both concrete and cement-based coatings, ease of handling in terms of weight, dimensions, mechanical strength and fastening of the material.
• Ease of cutting every 5 cm, shaping and adapting to the shapes of concrete elements.
• Dimensional stability, to avoid cracks in the coatings.
• Possibility of good assembly of the pieces of insulating material, in order to avoid thermal bridges and water vapor condensation lines at its joints.
