As Reliability & Productivity Specialist, James helps our plant to run as efficiently as possible.
How long have you worked for Ravago, and what have been the highlights to date?
I’ve been working at King’s Lynn site since 2013 and working for Ravago Building Solutions since the takeover in 2018. As for the highlights, in 2021 we saw the highest output from the King’s Lynn plant in a decade. We introduced a reliability programme which improved our OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) from 76.1% in 2020 to 88.2% in 2021 – a 12.1% increase. It was a particularly good result considering we built this improvement over a really difficult time, with raw material and people shortages – and during a global pandemic.
Tell us a bit about how this role differs to your last position?
My last role was on the production frontline, co-ordinating shift activity. Now I’m more focused on the overall reliability and productivity of our production plant and looking for ways to improve the reliability, optimisation, safety and quality performance across all areas. The plant runs 24/7, with very little planned downtime, so maximising the use of any available downtime is one of my key priorities.
What, for you, is the most satisfactory part of your role?
It’s seeing the overall output increase along with reliability and quality, while maintaining safety along the way. Also, watching the reliability and operations teams work together to improve and overcome the obstacles of running a 24/7 operation with minimal downtime.
What are your main interests/hobbies outside of work?
I’m a massive Liverpool FC fan and go up to watch the game as often as possible. I also enjoy making music and playing the guitar.
