In Hungary, investments in low-energy, sustainable residential properties are currently heavily underway. Not far from the Roman Baths, an entire apartment complex was built in this way. Small or big, one thing is for sure, they must always be insulated. Our ancestors already knew this and they know it on the King’s Road, so the cellars of the houses of the luxury apartment complex are protected by RAVATHERM XPS thermal insulation.
“The Village” is a luxury residential complex in one of Budapest’s most frequented neighborhoods, built on the King’s Road, not far from the Danube bank. The net floor area of 27 664 m2 is 4207 m2 built-in area, with 22 villas, 20-seater boathouses, 1 community building, 1 reception and 1 outdoor pool. The 22 villas consist of seven different types of villa buildings with a gross floor area of 104-134 m2.
The primary concern for the construction was the transparent installation and the spacious feeling of the area, and that the design of the apartment complex should fit in with the existing conditions, the location of the tree line and the level of flooding, so the whole area has been filled according to the expected flood level, thus protecting buildings, gardens and terraces from the annual flooding.
Although garages and storage – as they are located close to the river and below the ground level, can even be temporarily submerged, the structures are well designed in terms of both insulation and supporting structure. Thermal insulation in such applications must be selected in such a way that in addition to adequate thermal insulation properties, it also has to provide mechanical protection for the structure as well as resistance to moisture, providing long-term thermal protection.
RAVATHERM XPS 300 SL closed cell polystyrene foam thermal insulation is especially recommended for such applications, as its excellent thermal insulation properties, water resistance and high compressive strength allow it to be installed as the outermost element of the basement wall structure, even in direct contact with the ground, thanks to its closed cell structure as waterproof thermal insulation can be used not only for ground moisture but also for groundwater.
